Comments: 1997 Independent Fabrication Crown Jewel. Handmade in Somerville MA. We designed this build to be predominantly free of brand logos, carbon fiber free, and with a few parts and features reminiscent of classic road racers from the 70’s and 80’s… A carbon fiber free plush steel road racer. This while maintaining all of the performance of a modern drivetrain and in the *The Dark Phantom” black on black on silver alloy look.
We received the frame and fork from it’s original owner already custom powder coated metallic blue/black (the finish is predominantly black with metallic blue undertones visible in direct bright light) and with a custom, handmade bronze tree of life head badge. The frame is an early Independent Fabrication frame with more classic, thinner tubes than their current model, and classic road geometry. A 20 speed Campagnolo Daytona/Centaur drivetrain leads to a favorite mismatched wheel set. Rear Spinergy xaero (the only thing close to carbon on the bike are the composite spokes on the rear wheel) and a front DT Swiss hand laced 28 spoke wheel…. The brand free jet black skewers add even more dark phantom to the agenda.
