Who needs a freaking mission? Posted on October 7th 2009

Adventures often begin with a sense of enthusiasm and an energy that carries you through out the journey. These are good things and most of these blogs we stumble into blather on about personal philosophies and reflections of the greater meaning of life and how their dreams align with the cosmos and so on. We read through the drivel of how they are saving the planet, have found the solution to world peace whilst eating a tub of Ben and Jerry’s Rain Forest Crunch, or simply share how they love their fellow man/woman/child/dog/sage bush/or local pizzeria.

Well none of that is going down here. This deal is about having a sense of humor and laughing and enjoying the world you create for yourself. Sure, I might write this beautiful entry about a moment where self reflection is poignant and witty, but when I am done and finished with it, I’ll just delete it. Too many people take themselves seriously and worry about things that do not affect them or forget to focus on things that they themselves are ruining it for others. Like that idiot behind you in the movie who wants to spoil the plot or scary moments. Don’t be that guy!

JIFC started out as a joke between a pal and myself. If you know either one of us, then you know what it stands for. If you don’t then make something up and roll with it. Plus it has evolved and I continue to keep it that way. I think there is a really clever cliche’ about a rolling stone and Kate Moss, but I promised not to take things seriously. JIFC is a cycling team composed of anyone who wants to be in it. There are no jerseys (yet) but there are three t-shirts that were made. Being a school teacher I don’t have the funds to make more just yet, but I am working on it. There are only a few members of JIFC and I can’t even get my best pals to be a part of it. Membership is simple, send me $1000 to my paypal address (email me for the address) along with a picture of the Independent Fabrication bike you ride/race and you are in. I will send you your official membership paper (drawn and colored by my students) to be displayed on your fridge or desk at work.

Do not send me pictures of your IF bike without you on it or beside it. There is already ifrider and Chris does an amazing job with that site. I want you to actually be in the photo so the millions of readers who will be following this blog and can see you and your baby in all of its glory. Better yet, if you are ugly, get someone hot to take your place and send that in. I don’t want ugly people in the pictures, unless it is super ugly and then we can just make fun of it.

I hope to have a few people involved in this project so that we can get a few different points of view. Nobody wants to hear me spew about just my experiences and what I think is cool. There are already too many people telling us what to think. If you have read this far, you already know how to think and hopefully you have your own opinion, so enjoy this for what it is.

Enjoy!
