VDB: Life is a precious thing to waste. Posted on October 13th 2009

In the event of any tragedy I want to say that my opinions are mine alone and are not meant to sway you in any way…so formulate your own so that you can simply think for yourself.

Cycling is a wonderful sport and one that millions enjoy from learning to ride a bike to racing for your living. With in that spectrum we fall in love with the bicycle, routes, and people that make the sport colorful. It is these people that animate races, give good text, and push their bodies to levels we mere mortals can only fantasize about.
I don’t want to hear about your views on doping and who is clean and who is not. Some pros dope and some don’t. It is their cross to bare and until you are in their world your view point is from a distance not close enough to matter.

Recently Frank Vandenbroucke was found dead in his hotel room. You can read the story here. I did not know him or follow him as closely as others, yet I find it saddening that he allegedly took his own life.

Racing bikes or anything for that matter is an amazing thing. Like many professions there are terrible times people must go through. I wish all the respect and privacy VDB’s family needs to cope with this type of loss. The cycling community lost a great personality, however a family lost a husband, father, and son. To them we owe respect for his legacy.

RIP.
