Comments: This is a one off made as a production prototype in late 2006, to assess viability of the XS as a cyclocross platform. Long term testing indicates it is markedly more comfortable and rigid under power than a regular Ti Planet X. Weight for the frameset is pratically identical to a regular Ti Planet X – if memory serves it was one full ounce lighter. Depending on your build it will easily make a 16 lb cross bike. This particular one was built with King headset/hub, Alpha Q carbon cross fork, Zipp tubulars, Dugasts, full record, FSA carbon crank and bar, with a Thompson masterpiece stem. Carbon spooky brakes finish off the package. Currently using ti spindled crank brothers pedals, I personally found ti sprung pedals to not offer enough clip in power. Will it see full production? Despite being a fantastic cross platform, until some parts enter main stream availability it will remain extremely financially unviable. With the expense of producing one off parts for the frame, costs alone exceed that of an XS. If parts production occurs, pricing would decrease to the point of a regular XS and if demand exists, I would only imagine IF would build more.
