IF Racing’s Winning Ways Posted on August 21st 2008

IF Racing’s Pro/Development Team, FT/IF pb Lionette’s, has been quite busy and successful in the last few weeks.

Jerome Townsend was in Orange County, California contesting the U23 National Championships.  He was is perfect position in the final lap of the criterium only to be taken down in a crash.  But about the same time in NH, Todd Yezefski took our first big win of the season at the Gate City Cyclone Criterium.  FT/IF pb Lionette’s rode a great, aggressive race.  Todd got in the pivotal break about halfway through and the rest of the team controlled the field.  Todd then handily took the sprint for the win.

The next day Todd took the win again at Boston’s hotly contested Wells Ave. Criterium.   Then, on Tuesday we headed to the NE Velodrome to contest the team sprint.  Thunderstorms kept many people away but we rode anyway and had lots of fun.  Wednesday saw us at the Witches Cup in Salem, MA where we were again Todd was in perfect position, but was taken out of the race in a crash in the last laps.  Oh, well, that’s bike racing.

For the weekend the team headed back to New Hampshire for the Frontier Criterium and a Hampshire100k mountain bike race.  Much like the Saturday before we got a rider into the break.  Kevin Wolfson went off the front alone and one other rider bridged up to him.  Together they lapped the field as the FT/IF pb Lionette’s controlled the other teams , keeping anyone from getting away or threatening Kevin’s chances.  Kevin took the sprint for the win and Todd came in sixth.  Thunderstorms arrived as we drove across NH to the MTB race.

We camped out in a field and awoke at 6am to contest the 100 kilometer off road MTB race.  It was long, hard and brutal, but we came out with two wins as Greg won the single speed race and Tommy won his age class coming in 4th and 7th overall.

Trish Stevenson was taking over the winning ways on for the Pro mountain bikers, as Harlan Price nurses a broken wrist.  Trish became the first woman to finish the Colorado Trail Race, a 530 mile self-supported race, and also finished 5th overall, ahead of many men.  After taking some grueling nursing exams upon her return she then crushed the cometition at the Fools Gold in Georgia (100 mile MTB race, part of National Ultra Endurance Series.)  You can read that report, writen by Harlan Price.

Now, we prepare for the Green Mountain Stage Race in Vermont (Aug – Sept 1) and the Univest Grand Prix in Pennsylvania (Sept 6-7.)  Being invited to the Univest Grand Prix is a highlight of our year.  This is one of the biggest races in North America and since it being part of the North American Pro-Tour very few amateur teams get the opportunity to participate.  We hope to continue to represent you, our sponsors, well.  Wish us luck.
