D-Ling in the house! Posted on October 14th 2009

What can I say about Darren Ling? This guy is all class. He is the one responsible for my introduction into Independent Fabrication many years ago and planted the seed for what some might call “The Obsession” for all things Fab-tacular.
Darren has been a great pal ever since we headed west to Fruita, CO on our first bike trip. Darren and I did not know each other well at all and to be quite honest we were both a bit anxious. After long hours in the car from the midwest and no radio the entire way we made it. Sure Darren lost his pillow, but that cow never saw it coming! The trip turned out amazing even if he rode ahead and left me to fry in the sun! We were “L-i-v-i-n” and we have been best mates since. Now let us get away from the love fest here and talk IF/Racing.
Darren is a monster on a bike. He is able to do more then I can even process while riding. There are very few stunts that he doesn’t try, regardless of the stuff he breaks. Even “No-Stunt-Cecil” is impressed. Darren has for years spanked us on rides and as we all try to keep up with him even when our lungs literally falling out of our mouths, he is as calm and easy breathing as can be. Yeah we all hate him!
So this past weekend D-Ling raced with our pal Mike in the OVCX series mentioned down below and of course killed it. No podium as 150+ raced in the open categories and loads of sand-baggers wanted the coveted bag of swag. However he did stellar and I hope to see him in the front of a few more races this season. Not bad for a new dad and a teacher who has the worst schedule I have ever heard of. PLus his band camp stories are awesome! Hope you enjoy some pics of him getting after it on one of his 27 IF mountain bikes.
