IF Racing Pro Development Cycling Team Posted on February 3rd 2008

photoThe newly formed IF Racing officially opened its season this past weekend in Somerville, Massachusetts at the Independent Fabrication factory. Team Director Jonathan Bruno called together the newly expanded U25 Development program and Pro Mountain Bike Team for a weekend of team building followed by a team presentation on Sunday to their sponsors, family, friends and the media at Lionette’s the Garden of Eden Market. They spent Saturday on Thompson Island in the Boston Harbor performing many teambuilding exercises led by the excellent Outward Bound staff. The climax was when every rider, including those scared of heights, climbed a 30-foot pole and launching themselves off. The entire team held each other up and grew together.

IF Racing (Team Green) sees itself as unique as one focus is to promote environmental sustainability and healthy choices and seeks out sponsors that promote these goals like Fitness Together, Lionette’s, ClifBar and Chris King Precision Components, among others. The team will participate in an after school cycling program for Boston Public Schools, where Bruno teaches high school and helped launch cycling the program. Other charitable events and causes that the team participates in include, the PMC and a scholarship fund for public school students.

The team will be riding the new Independent Fabrication SSR road bike made from the Reynold’s latest 953 stainless steel, developed by Carpenter Technology of Reading Pennsylvania. This amazing material will help propel IF Racing to the top of domestic cycling. Led by Bruno and 11 time national champion and ex-pro Todd Yezefski (Nerac, TIAA-CREF), the team is poised to be a major force on the road with a group of young, talented riders from across the New England states.

The Pro Mountain Bike Team will add a female counterpart to the successful endurance racing of Harlan Price. Trish Stevenson of Ashville NC will return to full time racing after suffering a broken back in late 2006. Both racers are dominant figures in the National Ultra Endurance series as well as many other endurance events, including 12hr racing and multi-day stage races across the North and Central America. Price will venture overseas to contest a World Cup Marathon in France in October. Both riders will on the Independent Fabrication Ti Deluxe 29er for the season.
