In rereading my initial post I noticed I mention that the frame is not custom made......this should read that the frame is 'not custom sized' as it is not based on any one persons body measurements.

ok, this might be an odd post, but this is my old deluxe. I had to sell it when I became single again. This is not my auction, but it is an amazing bike. I was only able to ride it a few times and it is in the owner's section if you want to see it built up. If you want the build sheet I would happily send it to you.

I would love to see another one of us pick this up! I cannot right now or it would be on its way home.

Anyway get it, it is so awesome. You might even want to buy an old frame of mine and have it repainted just like this! <img src="http://www.ifrider.com/forum/bb-plugins/bb-smilies/default/icon_smile.gif" title=":)" class="bb_smilies" />

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=180463937566&Category=98083&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26its%3DI%26otn%3D2

Anyway good luck!

I have now added a button that appears on the front page of the site amongst other places so that gift donations can be made to support the costs of running the site. Let me know any feedback.

Amongst other things I hope that this will be useful in funding some IF Owners' Club related events in future if there is any surplus beyond the costs of running the site.

Happy Holidays to everyone! Hope you have a wonderful and safe holiday, and get to spend some time with family and friends. IF you believe in Santa, I hope he brings you a few upgrades for your IF, or possibly a new frame?

You all need to chime in and tell us what you got under your tree. I am hoping for some parts to complete my new IF SSX. I think I'm getting some WTB dirt drops and a KMC SL Ti coated 9 sp. chain. That should complete the build!

Best wishes, many miles and smiles, and a Happy New Year to all those that maintain and visit this site! IF rocks.

Hi Karen

The paint can take up to two months to fully harden and toughen. It is more susceptible to damage in this period. I would really recommend using helipcopter tape or other similar clear plastic coatings to protect the paint in high wear areas. I have fully covered the top tubes on my singlespeed and planet cross. The Ti Deluxe has a few chips and battle scars on it's painted panels from it's alpine adventures and manhandling by lift operators on the uplifts.

It might be a little late for IF to honor damage that was done almost six years ago, but I'm sure they'll help you out if they can. The paint process IF use is of similar spec to the paint finish you get on Audis, Mercedes and BMWs. It is superior to powdercoating but also more expensive. It's the first place I'd contact before using someone else.

Joel,

I can appreciate the dilemma, but I say work with IF and see what they can do for you. While many other painters do a fine job, Spectrum, Joe Bell, Keith Anderson, etc; I think sticking with the company who knows their product makes sense. Like Darren said in a previous post, we both have a pal who is having his bike repainted by IF. I think sending it back to the mothership and having them inspect the bike when it is stripped and then redoing things their way just makes good sense. They are going to stand behind their work and know what they are doing. Their paint dept and the folks behind it, especially Clint never stop working to get better.

Again that is my opinion and I am sure there are plenty of those out there. Might as well start at the source. You have got to post pics when it is all done as the absinthe is a sweet color to get!

Good luck!

Cheers

I am the new owner of an 01 deluxe. The frame is well used and I think that I will paint it before building it up. I am undecided about whether to paint or powdercoat. There is no question that powder will be more durable, but I would like to keep this bike somewhat in tune with how it was originally. I am in love the the absinthe green color and will probably go toward that no matter which I choose.

Any advise would be appreciated.

I agree with Dave on contacting IF about the problem. Just out of curiosity, what ti model is it? Chipping easily is normal of IF paint in my past experiences. I have only seen one other IF deluxe with "puckered" paint, and know for a fact the owner just contacted IF for a return authorization number. They are going to check it out for him.

If I had to do it again, on my ti frames, I would have chosen to not get a portion of them painted, and just gone with raw ti. My opinion only, of course. Let us know what happens. I am sure IF will be happy to help you in any way they can.

I can understand possibly not wanting to have IF repaint it if you were unhappy in the first place. Did you notify them when you noticed the problem at first? They might be willing to work something out if you have already had a problem with it.

Iam not terribly sure powder coating is super environmentally friendly or that much more so then liquid paint. I knwo IF has stepped up their paint dept tremendously over the last few years and Clint is the man when it comes to design and production. Youmight want to start at the source first.

If you have resigned not to go back to the source I have had bikes that got their paint form Spectrum Powder Works in Colorado.

http://www.spectrumpowderworks.com/

good luck with everything.

Dear List,

Bought my bike in 2004. I noticed almost immediately that some of the paint puckered on the top tube in a couple of places and another spot chipped off really easily. As I did not want to part with the bike for any period of time, I lived with it. I have recently marred the paint with an accidental meeting with a tool box so I am thinking about having the entire frame repainted, but was thinking of going somewhere other than IF. Any thoughts or recommendations? Also any experience as to how long, cost, etc. Also was talking to a guy at the shop about "powder coating." Claimed it was more environmentally friendly . . .

Thanks,

Karen

I am selling my 17" Ti deluxe frame and have to admit that I have not used it as much as it should have been used. I would say that the bike has only been ridden about 600 miles off road. It is not a custom built frame and is instead built with what IF calls traditional sizing. Here is a link to an explanation.

http://www.ifbikes.com/assets/documents/customize/traditional-sizing.pdf

So, the frame is a 17" and was new in 2004. Truth be told, the frame doesn't fit me well enough and one of the biggest reasons that I am selling it. The cables are top-routed and has a rear disc mount.

This is one of the sweetest hardtails made and is as beautiful as you would think.

Imperfections include tiny nics on the right chain stay from chain slap that were beside the stay-tuff chain stay protector. They are not very noticable but for full disclosure need to be mentioned. There are *NO* dents or scratches into the titanium, but a there are a few faint marks on the frame. The rear brake cable runs beside the head tube and has made a mark on the shot peened finish. There are also a few small scratches in the "INDEPENDENT FABRICATION" logo on the left side down tube which prevent if from being perfect.

I have uploaded pics of my fully built bike that I once rode, but all that is included in the sale is the frame and the seat post clamp. THe rest of the components have already been transitioned to another bike. Here are hosted images.

http://s119.photobucket.com/albums/o154/ababurko/?action=tags&current=ti_deluxe

I will take more photos of the frame, but need to source a camera other than the one on my phone.
